Coorg Itinerary - Lord Bhagandeshwara of Bhagamandala, Triveni Sangama

We visited Talakaveri first since authorties close entrace by 5:30PM. Once done with Talakaveri, we descended downhill for 8kms to have blessings of Lord Bhagandeshwara. Bhagamandala derives name from the temple situated near the Triveni Sangama. To reach Bhagandeshwara temple, one has to take service road after descending from Talakaveri instead of driving over flyover. Interestingly, the fog cover had vanished and Sun was out as we descended completely.

The primary deity is Lord Bhagandeshwara which is Lord eeshwara stands with gait facing east. The temple premises is well maintained and renovated. Lord Subramanya and Lord Mahavishnu shrines situated nearby the primary shrine. Lord Ganesha shrine is situated outside the sanctum and faces west. Not sure why Ganesha sanctum is outside the main shrine something which I have rarely seen. The  temple pinnacle is beautifully constructed. River Kannike flows adjacent to temple and merges with river Kaveri a little distance away.

River Kannike

The renovation is executed cleanly and temple premises is kept clean.

The temple timings

Once done with darshan of historical temple, we visited Triveni Sangama, confluence of three rivers namely Kaveri, Kannike and Sujyoti. Kaveri descends from Talakaveri and merges with Kannike at confluence point. Sujyoti is mystical river which is believed to be spring. Locals say that its visible only when the flow is minimal or river bed is dry. The confluence of rivers are holy as per Hindu texts and religion and pilgrims throng during auspicious occasions to take dip in holy waters.

All about sacred confluence

The kaveri flow had reduced due to scanty rains from past one week. The kannike was still roaring though with considerable speed. During torrential rains, the water from river overflows and reaches till steps of Bhagandeshwara temple. Also Triveni Sangama submerges in river water during peak monsoon season.

Despite the long weekend, the people presence was feeble. Only locals who won rural sports which was conducted at nearby field were seen to seek blessings of deity. Kids wanted to have glance of rural sports but it was way beyond our time schedule. Talakaveri plan would have been thwarted if we had spent bandwidth on watching rural sports.

The newly constructed flyover is boon for commuters especially during rainy season. The floods posed problem to local

On way back, heavy fog disrupted our drive. I was driving at minimal speed of 40kmph. The return journey took more time. The plan was to visit Raja seat but four day holiday streak had clogged the Madikeri town as well. There was huge line up of vehicles willing to visit Raja seat mostly from Bengaluru. The town was covered with heavy fog post 6PM which means its not worth visiting Raja seat currently. Consequently, we deferred the visit to next day and moved to historic Omkareshwara temple
