Where are you Monsoon?

The Monsoon pattern seems to be deteriorating every year in coastal Karnataka especially between Mangalore to Udupi. 2021 saw one of the worst monsoon spell till July 31. Nearly most of the stations recorded -30% deficit till now. It is still unsure if the deficit would become thinner in remaining 2 months. Most of the rains fall in first two months of Monsoon which is June & July. This time the activity has shifted to north India and thus affecting southern peninsula. Extreme rains happened in North which took a toll on southern rains. Even if rains revive around August 2nd week, the deficit would still remain negative. The rapid climate change, urbanisation has resulted in uncanny monsoon patterns which is confusing the farming community who depend on conspicuous monsoon pattern. Hope for good rains in remaining months of monsoon.

Here are pictures that were shot in Bangalore when coast had active monsoon spells. Hope to cherish those days soon.

Last week we witnessed sailing clouds over Amruthahalli lake. But these were not remnant of coastal rains. Such intense cloud activity means active monsoon spell in coast and Ghats but in contrast, it was not. These were localised clouds. Let us hope for best and pray for good monsoon throughout India.
