Long break monsoon and Crepuscular Rays

July 5 2021

YAY! the lakes gonna open from tomorrow during evening hours as well. That would too much exciting. We can enjoy evening walk along lake from tomorrow. Our apartment has become room of chaos. People are frivolously complaining our walking over apartment terrace. We were desperately waiting for lake gates to open to step away from urban clamour. The authorities have finally decided to open the gates during evening hours which is a big relief to us.

The monsoon seems to be taking a looooooooong break :-(. The west coast seems to be parched. The rains are yet to gain momentum. The cyclone Taukate has done immense damage to the monsoon flow. Thanks to the nonseasonal rains from January and copious pre-monsoon rains, the monsoon pattern seems to be unpredictable nowadays. It all depends on wind surge and ocean temperature. Even the summers were not as hot as expected fuelling lethargic monsoon surge. The farming community is worried about the muted monsoon. On the contrary, the loss in west coast seems to gain to TamilNadu and interior Karnataka. We have huge cloud mass hovering all over the city nowadays with pelting rains. The city too received hefty rains which is quite unusual at this point of time. We never witnessed such type of monsoon breaks during our childhood days at coastal Karnataka. The monsoon was pounding right from last of week of May till first week of August with guaranteed school holidays for 2-3 days :-). Thanks to global climate variations, the monsoon seems to be either loosing or shifting momentum which has become extremely difficult to predict. This year monsoon has been lousy till now except for initial 10 days of excitement. Monsoon seems to have taken permanent leave from past days and there is hope of revival in a week of time. Hope it turns out to be real.

Meanwhile the stormy skies have set up beautiful art over troposphere. We had magnificent crepuscular display show today thanks to disciplined co-ordination between clouds and evening Sun :-). Here are pictures to rejoice

Here are glimpses of stormy evening. It rained heavily at centre and South of city. North of city including ours did not witness intense rainfall activity :-(.

A short timelapse of the crepuscular rays to conclude the post
