Do you read the toll price? Yes this is for mere 40kms (aggregate) two way journey between Suratkal NITK toll gate and Mangalore.
Such an inordinate ridiculous price for a highway with jagged roads, dilapidated bridges, nasty barricades, railway crossings :D. Yes! That railway crossing at New Mangalore Port is hilarious and at the same frustrating. This is our toll road and that too costly one. Slithering through nasty barricade increases your journey time by at least 15 mins. Such a huge toll I guess is attributed to non payment of toll by local commuters. Due to this uneven distribution, the cars bearing outside registration (like mine) have to pay inflated toll prices for despicable road. The staff shamelessly justifies the price in egotist manner. The authorities take advantage of fact that outsiders wont protest.
Adding to misery we have 4 manual signals, humongous barricades, and worst of all, speeding wrong siders. This toll fee is applicable only till Bantwal. We have to pay additional 25 near bantwal (one way) and if not asked, you don't get receipt. The Mangalore-Bantwal stretch has incomplete railway underpass & incomplete work near Bantwal. None of the stretch has even surface and its hell of journey. Locals do not protest probably because they don't pay. The outsiders are the biggest sufferers. At both toll booths, FasTag does not function :-(
Like it says at the end wishing for happy journey, I don't know if you will have one but you will definitely feel costliest journey. Given the ill health of road, definitely it is not going to be happier journey either. Hopefully NHAI listens to woes of toll payers at-least by providing motorable paid roads.
