Splendid revisit to Koodli

24th August 2018,

My last visit to Koodli was dim. I could not figure out the contrast between Tunga & Bhadra. This time, thanks to energetic monsoon rains, both rivers were swelling with well differentiated color. It was literally possible to juxtapose the rivers at Sangama point (Confluence point). My camera could not resist the temptation to grab such beautiful scene. Also the presence of pleasant atmosphere enabled me to capture the complete beauty. Whenever Sun god shed light, the contrast accentuated adding to my Joy. Hope you also enjoy these scenes.

Being holy place, many Hindu pilgrims arrive here and offer ceremonies to ancestors. Numerous developmental activities have been completed which includes changing rooms, resting area and a clean promenade to reach the confluence point. Unfortunately, there is lack of public toilets. Also government levies hefty parking charge of Rs.40 for four wheelers despite the absence of parking lot.

When cloud disappears, beauty transpires

The vehement monsoon has revived age old reservoirs of Karnataka, rejuvenated the waterfalls and left a valuable lesson to human civilization. When you meddle with nature, the reverse process entails. That is evident from the furious monsoon season that pummeled Malnad regions of Karnataka this year. The district known as Coorg was devastated by the massive floods and enormous landslides wiping out villages altogether. The amount of destruction has made erstwhile human habitats, non-livable. It looks like nature reclaimed all its lost space in partnership with monsoon. The unprecedented deforestation in Coorg due to the growing resort culture, the blatant culling of pristine rainforest for rubber/tea plantations has finally broke the patience of nature and the savage events ensued. The tall pinnacles of rainforest would have withheld such a destruction by decelerating the rains towards ground and also acting as strong foundations for mountains. Alas! they are no more now in Coorg, thanks to modernization and greed. Even after series of disasters, governments are hesitating to revive these rainforests which shows ignorance and irresponsibility. I believe it is not hesitation but speculation of declining profit for greedy politicians. Despite all kinds of scientific improvements, nature teaches us to live within boundary. But this is not being learnt by people here in Coorg. Consequently, more disasters are inevitable. It's time to resuscitate the rainforest for our good!

Back to the main topic. After few scribbles of preaching, the Linganamakki dam in Karnataka also brimmed to its potential due to copious monsoon rains in catchment areas. After gap of 4 years, the water was let out of dam reviving the glory of Jog falls. Unfortunately we visited few days after the event and consequently could not view the exuberance of the waterfall. Nevertheless, the day of visit was not bleak. This time the glory was far exceeding the last visit. It takes a little patience to view waterfall since the cloud cover engulfs the valley thwarting the views of beauty. Initially we also had to contend with massive roar but have patience till nebulous gorge clears. As the clock ticked past 3PM, we finally had a great glimpse of the mammoth waterfall and cheered for the nature. The selfies ensued as well ;-). Once clouds faded temporarily, the jog falls was beehive with selfie takers. I like to grab portraits of landscape and hardly interested in self/selfie portraits :D. On the way back, I was excited to see tall pinnacles of Sharavathi valley sanctuary. It rains more than coorg here but the pinnacles have preserved the stability beautiful mountains. This shows how important is our beautiful rainforests in controlling disaster. At least, these forests should set as an example for mankind to conserve the giant trees.

Here is video. Most of my time spent in waiting for the clouds to disperse away from waterfall. Hence there were hardly any pictures captured.

It is more of cloudwatch than Skywatch :-)

Sea Tides - Part 1

The election day visit was one of the most memorable visit to my beautiful Kapu beach with clear atmosphere and dazzling Sun amidst the clouds. The rains have cheered the nature and its green everywhere. The impact is visible during the golden hour with the hydrogen star flaunting its beauty along the western horizon amidst the drifting clouds. I had busy time framing the endearing landscape views and consequently the memory card was loaded with beauty of nature. It was moment of delighted as I processed those images. Very minimal edits were required on captured images which shows how uber adorable was nature that day.

There are humongous pictures indeed. To make sure the viewers don't lose sync, I have split the post in three parts with the selected images which I think conceived well and here is the first one.

ಬ್ಯಾಕೆಂಡ್-೨೦

ಮತ್ತೊಮ್ಮೆ ಬ್ಯಾಕೆಂಡ್ ಸರಣಿಗೆ ಸುಸ್ವಾಗತ. ಈ ಬಾರಿಯ ವಿಶೇಷ ಜಲದರ್ಶಿನಿ, ಮಳೆಗಾಲದ ಬ್ಯಾಕೆಂಡ್. ಈ ಬರಹ ಹಾಸ್ಯಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಬೇಸರವನ್ನು ಒತ್ತಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬ ಮುನ್ಸೂಚನೆಯನ್ನು ನೀಡಬಯಸುತ್ತೇನೆ.

ನಮ್ಮ ಅಚ್ಚುಮೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಗಜಾನನ ಮೋಟಾರ್ಸ್ ಹಿಂಬದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಡುಬಂದ ಶೀರ್ಷಿಕೆ. ಸಮಯೋಚಿತ ಕೂಡಾ.  ಬಸ್ಸು ಕೂಡಾ  ಜೋಗಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಚರಿಸುವುದರಿಂದ ಈ ಲೇಬಲ್ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಹೊಂದಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಂದ ಹಾಗೆ ಮುಂಗಾರಿನ ಆರ್ಭಟಕ್ಕೆ ಜಲಾಶಯಗಳೆಲ್ಲ ತುಂಬಿ ಜಲಪಾತಗಳಿಗೆ ಪೊಗರು ಬಂದಿದೆ. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಜೋಗವೂ ಒಂದು ಉದಾಹರಣೆ. ಜೋಗದ ವೈಭವ ಕಾಣಿಸುವುದೇ ಅಪರೂಪ ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಲಿಂಗನಮಕ್ಕಿ ಆಣೆಕಟ್ಟು ತುಂಬಲು ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ಮಳೆ ಬೀಳಬೇಕು. ಹಲವಾರು ವರ್ಷದಿಂದ ಕೈಕೊಡುತಿದ್ದ ಮುಂಗಾರು ಈ ವರ್ಷ ಭರ್ಜರಿಯಾಗಿ ಸುರಿದಿದೆ. ಅದರಿಂದಾಗಿ ಲಿಂಗನಮಕ್ಕಿ ಬಹುಬೇಗನೆ ಪೂರ್ಣ ಮಟ್ಟಕ್ಕೆ ತಲುಪಿದೆ. ಲಿಂಗನಮಕ್ಕಿ ತುಂಬಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಜೋಗದ ಜಲಪಾತವು ಸಾಗರದಂತೆ ಧುಮ್ಮಿಕ್ಕುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಬಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬರೆದಿರುವ "ಸಾಗರ ಜೋಗ ಫಾಲ್ಸ್" ಒಂದೇ ಪದದಂತೆ ಓದಿದರೂ ಇಂದಿನ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿಗೆ ಅತಿಶಯೋಕ್ತಿ ಅಂತೂ ಅಲ್ಲ ಬಿಡಿ ;-). ಮತ್ತೊಮ್ಮೆ ಜೋಗದ ವೈಭವ ಮರುಕಳಿಸಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅದರ ಸೌಂದರ್ಯವನ್ನು ಸವಿಯುವ ಭಾಗ್ಯ ಅಂದು ನಮ್ಮದಾಗಿತ್ತು.

ಅಂದ ಹಾಗೆ ಮುಂಗಾರಿನ ಆರ್ಭಟಕ್ಕೆ ಮಲೆನಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲಿ ನೋಡಿದರು ನೀರು. ಬಸ್ಸಿನ ಶೀರ್ಷಿಕೆ ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ಹೊಂದಿಕೊಂಡಿದೆ. ಬಸ್ಸು ಸಂಚರಿಸುವ ಹಾದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರೋ ನೀರು. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಬಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಳಿತವರಿಗೆ ದಾರಿಯುದ್ದಕ್ಕೂ ಜಲದರ್ಶನವಾಗುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಶಯವೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಆಕಾಶದಿಂದ ಜಲದರ್ಶನ, ಕಾಲುವೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಜಲದರ್ಶನ, ಕೆರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಜಲದರ್ಶನ ಮತ್ತೆ ಜಲಪಾತದಲ್ಲಿ ಜಲಘರ್ಜನೆ ಎಂದರು ಉತ್ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷೆಯಾಗದು. ಮಳೆಗಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗದಿಂದ ಜೋಗದವರೆಗೂ ಮಳೆರಾಯನ ಕೃಪೆಯಿಂದ ಎಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲೂ ನೀರೇ ನೀರು. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಜೋಗ ಜಲಪಾತವೊಂದೇ ಅಲ್ಲ,  ದಾರಿಯುದ್ದಕ್ಕೂ ನಿಮಗೆ ಜಲದರ್ಶನದ ಸೌಭಾಗ್ಯ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿ ಮಾತೆಯು ಕರುಣಿಸುತ್ತಾಳೆ!

ನಾವು ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗದಿಂದ ಜೋಗಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಚರಿಸುವಾಗ ಕಂಡಿದ್ದು. ನನ್ನ ಭಾರ್ಯೆಯ ಕ್ಯಾಮೆರಾ ಕೈಚಳಕದ ಮುಖಾಂತರ ಸೆರೆ ಹಿಡಿದದ್ದು.

ಕೊನೆಯ ಮಾತು:

ಅತಿವೃಷ್ಟಿಯಿಂದಾಗಿ ಕೊಡಗು ಅಕ್ಷರಶಃ ಕೊಚ್ಚಿಹೋಗಿದೆ. ಹೌದು ಕೊಡಗಿನಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಪರೀತ ಮಳೆ. ಇದರಿಂದಾಗಿ ಗುಡ್ಡಗಳು ನೀರಿನಂತೆ ಜರಿಯುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಊರಿಗೆ ಊರೇ ಮಣ್ಣುಪಾಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಎಲ್ಲೆಂದರಲ್ಲಿ ನೀರಿನ ಕಾಲುವೆ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿ ಆಗಿದೆ. ಆದರೆ ವಿಷಯ ಅದಲ್ಲ. ಇಂದು ಜೋಗದಿಂದ  ಭಟ್ಕಳಕ್ಕೆ ತೆರಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾಗ ಕಂಡ ದೃಶ್ಯದಿಂದ ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯವಾಯಿತು. ಈ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲೂ ಮಳೆಗೇನು ಕೊರತೆ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಕೊಡಗಿಗಿಂತ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಹೆಚ್ಚೇ ಎನ್ನಬಹುದು. ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸ ಏನೆಂದರೆ ಈ ಪ್ರದೇಶ ಶರಾವತಿ ಕಣಿವೆ ಅಭಯಾರಣ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ನಾಗರಿಕತೆ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಪ್ರಮಾಣದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಅದರಲ್ಲೂ ಸುಮಾರು ೩೦ ಕಿ.ಮೀ ನಷ್ಟು ಗೊಂಡಾರಣ್ಯ ಮಾತ್ರ ಕಾಣಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಆಕಾಶಕ್ಕೆ ಚುಂಬಿಸುವಂತ ಮರಗಳು ಮಳೆಯನ್ನು ಮೆಲ್ಲನೆ ಭೂಮಿಗಿಳಿಯುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡುವುದಲ್ಲದೆ, ಅದರ ಬಲಾಢ್ಯ ಬೇರುಗಳು ಬೆಟ್ಟಕ್ಕೆ ಶಕ್ತಿ ತುಂಬುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಶಯವೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಒಂದೆರಡು ಸಣ್ಣ ಪುಟ್ಟ ಮರ ಬಿದ್ದಿದ್ದು ಬಿಟ್ಟರೆ ಅಂತಹ ವಿಪತ್ತು ಕಾಣಸಿಗಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅತ್ತ ಕೊಡಗಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇಂತಹ ಮಳೆಕಾಡುಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಲೆಗೈದು, ನಗರಿಕರಣಕ್ಕೆ ಮಾನವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಿಸಿದ್ದೆ ತಪ್ಪು. ಸಂಪಾಜೆಯಿಂದ ಮಡಿಕೇರಿವರೆಗೆ  ಕೇವಲ ರೆಸಾರ್ಟ್, ರಬ್ಬರ್, ಕಾಫಿ ತೋಟಗಳದ್ದೇ ಕಾರುಬಾರು. ಸಾಲದೆಂಬಂತೆ ಗುಡ್ಡ ಕಡಿದು ಕಟ್ಟಡ ಕಟ್ಟಿದರೆ ಇನ್ನೇನಾಗಬೇಕು.  ಪ್ರಕೃತಿ ಮಾತೆ ತಾಳ್ಮೆ ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಅತಿವೃಷ್ಟಿ ಮೂಲಕ ತನ್ನ ಜಾಗವನ್ನು ವಾಪಾಸ್ ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡಳು. ರಸ್ತೆಯನ್ನೇ ಸೀಳಿ ತೊರೆ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಳು. ತನ್ನ ಮಡಿಲನ್ನು ಕಡಿದವರಿಗೆ ಅದೇ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಉತ್ತರಿಸಿದಳು. ಇನ್ನೆಂದು ತನ್ನ ಜಾಗಕ್ಕೆ ಬರದಿರುವಷ್ಟು ಪಾಠ ಕಳಿಸಿದಳು. ಭ್ರಷ್ಟ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ಅವಿರತವಾಗಿ ರಬ್ಬರ್ ಕೃಷಿಗೆ ಒಪ್ಪಿಗೆ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದು ದೊಡ್ಡ ತಪ್ಪು. ದಟ್ಟ ಮಳೆಕಾಡುಗಳನ್ನು ಮತ್ತೆ ಜೀವಕ್ಕೆ ತರುವುದು ನೂರಾರು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ತಪಸ್ಸು. ಆದರೆ ಈಗಲೂ ಸಮಯ ಮೀರಿಲ್ಲ. ನಮ್ಮ ಮಳೆಕಾಡುಗಳನ್ನು ಮರು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಲು ಇದು ಪಕ್ವವಾದ ಸಮಯ. ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯಿಂದ ಈಗಲಾದರೂ ಪಾಠ ಕಲಿತರೆ ಮುಂದಿನವರಿಗೆ ಒಳಿತಿದೆ. ಅಣೆಕಟ್ಟುಗಳು ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಗಂಡಾಂತರ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸುವುದು ನಿಚ್ಚಳವಾಗಿದೆ. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಬಹುತೇಕ ಅಣೆಕಟ್ಟುಗಳು ಹಳೆಯದಾಗಿದೆ. ಬಹು ಹಳೆಯದಾದ ಇವು ಭಾರಿ ಪ್ರಮಾಣದ ನೀರಿನ ಹೊಡೆತವನ್ನು ತಡೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯ ಕುಗ್ಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಹೀಗೆ ಮುಂದುವರೆದರೆ ಆಣೆಕಟ್ಟುಗಳು ಒಡೆಯುವ ದಿನ ದೂರವಿಲ್ಲ. ನದಿ ನೀರಿನ ಸಹಜ ಪಥಕ್ಕೆ ಅಣೆಕಟ್ಟೆನೆಂಬ ಅಡ್ಡಗಾಲು ಇಡುವುದೇ ದೊಡ್ಡ ತಪ್ಪು. ಇದರಿಂದ ಹೂಳು ತುಂಬಿ ಅಣೆಕಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ತೊಂದರೆ. ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಯಾಕೆ ಎತ್ತಿನಹೊಳೆಯಂತಹ ನದಿಯ ಪಥವನ್ನೇ ಬದಲಾಯಿಸುವಂತಹ ಯೋಜನೆಯಿಂದ ಇನ್ನೆಷ್ಟು ಗಂಡಾಂತರ ಕಾದಿದೆಯೋ ಆ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿ ಮಾತೆಯೇ ಬಲ್ಲಳು. ಕೊಡಗಿನ ದುರ್ಘಟನೆಯಿಂದ ಸರಕಾರ ಈಗಲಾದರೂ ಎಚ್ಛೆತ್ತುಕೊಂಡು ಎತ್ತಿನಹೊಳೆಯಂತಹ ಮಾರಕ ಯೋಜನೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಅಂತ್ಯ ಹಾಡುಬೇಕೆನ್ನುವ ಆಶಯ ನನ್ನದಾಗಿದೆ.

ಆಗಸ್ಟ್ ೨೬, ೨೦೧೮ ನೇ ತಾರೀಖಿನ ಉದಯವಾಣಿ  ಸಾಪ್ತಾಹಿಕ ಸಂಪದದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಕಟವಾಗಿರುವ ನರೇಂದ್ರ ರೈ  ದೇರ್ಲ ಅವರ "ಜಲಪ್ರಳಯ" ಲೇಖನವನ್ನು ತಪ್ಪದೆ ಓದಿ.

Waiting for that reflective moment

An abandoned field is being cleaned up for the slush race which is scheduled in a week. As you can see, the field is already filled with water partially and with more rains, it would fill up to the required level to support the event. Only the periphery of the field and nearby areas are cleaned up to facilitate smooth flow of the event. It is the tale of the monsoon season that the bushes and shrubs grow tall owing to continuous rains for 4 months. We don't know how many reptiles are hidden beneath these.

So am I eagerly waiting for the event? Absolutely not! I am waiting for that beautiful evening moment when Sun's gorgeous reflection embellishes this tiny little field with colorful patterns. This moment I am expecting to happen during the end of September during my revisit to the native village. The evening storms by that time would create fantastic reflection over the artificial pond with the synergy of the golden Sun, scattered clouds and obviously haze free atmosphere. Yes, I am waiting for those reflective moments and hope to snap few sparkling HDR shots! The only blemishing part is the electric line cutting over the field.

Vanishing views

The burgeoning real estate in Bangalore city swiftly filling all voids of the city. The mushrooming  concrete pinnacles have not even left an inch of land. Till now, we had great views overlooking from the office parking lot. Beholding the horizon along with nagawara lake provided temporary relief during hectic office days especially when thick monsoon clouds rose and crepuscular rays dispersed. There were numerous instances when sky showed up with tremendous beauty and my mobile camera captured them. That synergy may soon going to end. Looks like another pinnacle is being grown adjacent to existing one. This will completely obstruct the views of sky or probably vanish from the elevated parking lot. Before the man made structure thwarts the enthusiasm, I grabbed a picture of thick clouds hovering above the Nagawara Lake. Hope you enjoy.

It is raining heavily in Western ghats and the effect is seen in Bangalore to some extent. One fine afternoon when I was under the bus shelter escaping the windy rains, I captured rainy mood to pass time.

ಹಾಗೆ ಸುಮ್ಮನೆ - ಡೈವ್!

ನಮ್ಮ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ಆಗುಹೋಗುಗಳು ನಡೆಯುತ್ತವೆ. ಎಷ್ಟೊಂದು ಬಾರಿ ಸಣ್ಣ ಸಣ್ಣ ವಿಷಯಗಳು ನಮಗೆ ಗೋಚರಿಸುವುದೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಅಂತಹ ಸಣ್ಣ ವಿಷಯಗಳನ್ನು ಬರಹ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿವರಿಸುವ ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾಲಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇನೆ :-). ಇವೆಲ್ಲಾ ಬರಹಗಳು ಹಾಗೆ ಸುಮ್ಮನೆ ಅನ್ನುವ ತಲೆಬರಹದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಹಾಗೆ ಬರಹಗಳನ್ನು ಚಿಕ್ಕವಾಗಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಚೊಕ್ಕವಾಗಿ ಬರೆಯುವ ಇರಾದೆ ಕೂಡ ಇದೆ. ಇಂದಿನ ಟಾಪಿಕ್ ಹಾಲಿನಂಗಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಘಟನೆ.

ಹ ಹ ಹಾ.. ಎನ್ ಸ್ಪೆಷಲ್ ಅನ್ಕೋಂಡ್ರಾ.. ಛೇ ಛೇ ಹಾಗೇನು ಇಲ್ಲ ;-). ಹಾಗೆ ಹೊಸ ಕಾರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಊರಿಗೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿರುವಾಗ ಕಂಡಾಗ ದೃಶ್ಯ. ಮಳೆಗಾಲ ಭರ್ಜರಿಯಾಗೆ ಕರಾವಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸುರಿತಾ ಇದೆ. ಕಾರನ್ನು ಚಲಾಯಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವಾಗ ಒಂದೆಡೆ ಉಲ್ಲಾಸ ಮತ್ತೊಂದೆಡೆ ತಳಮಳ. ಉಲ್ಲಾಸ ಯಾಕೆಂದರೆ ಮಳೆಗಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ಘಟ್ಟದ ಸೊಬಗು ವರ್ಣನಾತೀತ. ಅದರ ಸೌಂದರ್ಯವನ್ನು ಕಣ್ಣಿನಿಂದ ಸವಿಯುವುದು ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಒಂತರಾ ಭೂರಿ ಭೋಜನವಿದ್ದಂತೆ. ಮತ್ತೊಂದೆಡೆ ತಳಮಳ ಕೂಡ. ಭಾರಿ ಮಳೆಯ ಮಧ್ಯೆ ಎಲ್ಲಿ ಭೂಕುಸಿತವಾಗುವುದೋ ಎಂಬ ಭಯ. ಹೊಸ ಕಾರು ಬೇರೆ ಅದರ ಜೊತೆ ಮಳೆಯ ಅವಾಂತರ ಏನೇನು ಅವಘಡಗಳನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸುತ್ತೋ ಅನ್ನೋ ದುಗುಡ. ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಇದ್ಯಾವುದು ಆಗಿಲ್ಲವೆನ್ನಿ :-). ದೇವರ ದಯೆಯಿಂದ ಎಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲೂ ಉತ್ಸಾಹವೇ ಮನೆ ಮಾಡಿತ್ತು. ತಳಮಳಕ್ಕೆ ಅವಕಾಶವೇ ಇರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಮಳೆ ರಾತ್ರಿ ಸುರಿದು ಬೆಳಗ್ಗಿನ ಜಾವ ಬಿಡುವು ನೀಡಿತ್ತು. ನೀರೆಲ್ಲ ಹರಿದು ಹೋಗಿದ್ದವು. ಸಂಜೆ ಮನೆ ತಲುಪಿದಾಗ ಕರಾವಳಿಯ ಮಳೆಯೂ ಶಾಂತವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಇದರ ಜೊತೆ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿಗೆಹಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಮಯ ಕಳೆದಿದ್ದೇ ತಿಳಿಯಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಎಲ್ಲಿ ನೋಡಿದರೂ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯದ್ದೆ ವೈಯ್ಯಾರ. ಎಂತಹವರ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನೂ ಸೆಳೆಯುವ ಹಾಲಿನ ಹೊಳೆ. ಸಹ್ಯಾದ್ರಿಯ ಶ್ರೇಣಿಯಿಂದ ಬೆಳ್ಳಿಯ ನೊರೆ ಮೈದುಂಬಿ ಧುಮುಕುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಆಹಾ ಎಂತಹ ವಿಸ್ಮಯಕಾರಿ ಜಲಪಾತಗಳು. ಸುಮಾರು ೧೦ ಕಿ.ಮೀ ಅವುಗಳದ್ದೆ ರಾಜ್ಯ. ನಮಗಂತೂ ಹಬ್ಬವೇ ಹಬ್ಬ. ಜೂನ್, ಜುಲೈ ತಿಂಗಳುಗಳು ಶುಭಕಾರ್ಯಗಳಿಗೆ ಒಣಹವೆ ಇದ್ದಂತೆ ಆದರೆ ನಿಸರ್ಗ ಪ್ರಿಯರಿಗೆ ಹಬ್ಬವೆ ಹಬ್ಬ!

ಮೇಲೆ ತಿಳಿಸಿದಂತೆ ನನ್ನ ಡ್ರೈವ್ ಕೂಡ ನಿರಾಳವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಯಾವುದೇ ಅಡೆತಡೆ ಇಲ್ಲದೆ ಚಾರ್ಮಾಡಿ ಘಾಟಿ ಇಳಿದಾಯಿತು. ಗುರುವಾಯನಕೆರೆ ತಲುಪಿದಾಗ ಮಳೆಯ ಪ್ರಮಾಣ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಜಾಸ್ತಿಯೇ ಇದೆ ಎನ್ನುವುದು ಮನದಟ್ಟಾಯಿತು. ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಕೆರೆಯ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ತಕ್ಕಂತೆ ಈಗಲೇ ನೀರು ತುಂಬಿಕೊಂಡಿದೆ. ಇನ್ನೂ ಮುಂಗಾರಿನ ಮೊದಲನೆಯ ವಾರ ಅಷ್ಟೇ! ಮುಂದಿನ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆರೆ ಉಕ್ಕಿ ಹರಿಯುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಶಯವೇ ಇಲ್ಲ.

ಅಂದ ಹಾಗೆ ಅದು ರೋಡ್ ಸೈನ್ ಮಾರಾಯ್ರೆ ನಿಮಗೆ ಡೈವ್ ಹೊಡೆಯಲು ಸೂಚನೆ ಅಲ್ಲ.. ಅಲ್ಲೇ ಪಕ್ಕ ರೋಡ್ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಕರ್ವ್ ಇದೆ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಸೈನ್-ಬೋರ್ಡ್ ಹಾಕಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇದನ್ನು ನೀವು ಈಜುವ ಸೂಚನೆ ಅಂದು ಕೊಂಡರೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ವಾಪಾಸ್ ಬರುವುದು ಡೌಟೆ! ಟೈಟ್ ಆಗಿ ಗಾಡಿ ಓಡಿಸೋರು ಇದನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ಜಲಮಾರ್ಗಕ್ಕೆ ನುಗ್ಗುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಶಯವೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಕೆರೆಗೆ ರಕ್ಷಣಾ ಗೋಡೆ ಕಟ್ಟಿದ್ದರೂ ಮಳೆಗಾಲಕ್ಕೆ ಅದು ಸವೆದು ಹೋಗುವುದರಿಂದ ಅದರ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯದ ಮೇಲೂ ಸಂಶಯ ಮೂಡುವುದು ಸಹಜವೇ ಆಗಿದೆ. ಅದರಲ್ಲೂ ಕಿಕ್ ಏರಿದ ಮೇಲೆ ಗಾಡಿ ಮೆಲ್ಲಗೆ ಓಡಿಸುವವರನ್ನ ಎಲ್ಲಾದರೂ ಕೇಳೀದ್ದೀರಾ ;-)

Live from Above

Overwhelming pre-monsoon rains have rendered exorbitant beauty in my village and adjoining areas ahead of monsoon season which is a month away. The trough over Karnataka is the main reason behind such a healthy pre-monsoon shower. The area is completely filled with greenery and the water bodies have resurrected. The atmosphere is azure during day and the horizon filled with beauty during golden hour. The shore nearby the water bodies is the best place to rejoice the beauty of nature presenting splendid contrast between warm and cool tones. During this day, I chose to visit the Kaup beach during evening to relish the beauty of nature. It's baking in Karnataka being voting day and nature was not behind. The sweltering weather is soaking the body with profuse sodium chloride. The humid weather is what keeping the rains alive and consequently everybody bears it inevitably.

As I reached Kaup beach, the beauty was profound. It has been long time since I hiked to summit of Kaup beach light house. This was golden opportunity to capture evening golden hue. The overlook from light house was obviously spectacular thanks to haze free sky. The entire 360 degree area around the light house was worth the capture. Here are the pictures from the summit of light house. "Live from Above" the light-house provided some extraordinary glimpses of backwaters, coconut trees, the sea-shore and the golden western horizon. Hope you enjoy the pictures too!

Improved software in SBI ATM

If you are regular SBI ATM user, you must have noticed the ATM openly exposing your account balance to the public. This is OK if nobody is present in ATM, but in cities like Bangalore where crowd never dissolves, the uncontrolled balance display intimidates the user and opens up a lot of insecurities. This balance display is peeked by people who are in the queue and the situation is worse when there are parallel ATMs. I would say this was one of the worst designs in the financial world and being a software engineer this insecure feature is valued learning for me.

Earlier, the ATMs insecurely displayed account balance without user's consent.

Recently, I visited the nearby SBI ATM which always held "out of cash" placard. Fortunately, fresh notes were fed into the ATM and cash was available. When I finished the transaction, I noticed this prompt from ATM.

"Do you want to display account balance?". Finally, SBI learned from users that exposing account balance is insecure and updated the software. Now the user can control the balance display and most of the occasion, it would be a confident "No". Since the user receives SMS on transaction along with available balance, my opinion is to ditch this facility in near future. This software update is a welcome step by SBI and hopefully, every ATM is updated with the latest enhancement.

As of now not all ATMs have updated software.  Considering that software update could be performed remotely, every SBI ATM should have the update available already. My suspicion is that the machines dispensing newly introduced notes only have this software. The legacy still carries older software.

A stroll down to fields

After dabbling with colors of nature and befriending the mighty sea-tides, it was time to relax and behold the morning rays shimmering the deserted paddy fields. Soon these areas will be filled with  ploughing activities or even may be sometimes morphed into rivers :D. A month later, upright saplings garnish these fields enlivening the bucolic charm. As of now, the heavy pre-monsoon rains have scribbled verdant sketches over the dormant fields which photographer admires a lot. This morning me with my nephew went for a stroll towards these paddy fields to share the joy with nature.

I turned nostalgic for a moment, ruminating those school days during monsoon season. We strolled along the pathway between the fields fearlessly and enthusiastically amidst the brimming fields. Few days were declared holiday as well during torrential rains. Despite the lack of roads, safety measure we sailed through those furious moments of nature seamlessly.

Back to today's musings! It was fresh grass grown over the field and the cattle were enjoying it. The sumptuous meal was unbounded. They were free to wander even towards adjoining fields to devour the fresh grass as much as they want. It was beautiful day to capture photograph as well! Miraculously, a small cloud system was moving from north to south blocking the way of Sun. This is the ultimate moment landscapers look for. The rays dispersed by Sun through the clouds over the rural arena is just impeccable to photograph. I grabbed few moments till the clouds faded away. It was 10AM and not an ideal time. Despite the scorching Sun, the clouds hindering the rays entering the field momentarily provided an excellent aura to photograph the nature.

Nature is tough riddle and its manifestations are unpredictable. At the end, the complacent photographer was enthralled with fruitful stroll.
