Bhairasagara Lake, Gudibande, Chikkaballapura District

14th August 2021

Our last travel was targeted towards TG Halli dam but ended in Markonahalli Dam. There was sunshine post storm. But this time, it was neither storm nor sunshine. The day was filled with clouds and journey too was clouded. We planned to hike Gudibande Fort but at the end there was disappointment. When we reached the spot, the police-man asked us to go back stating that the place is closed on weekends. It looks like the government has issued orders prohibiting entry to tourist places in Karnataka on weekends owing to increase in COVID numbers again. The states bordering Karnataka is witnessing high infection rate again which is prompting authorities to spring into action. Hence strict measures are implemented by local authorities to curb possible 3rd wave.

Meanwhile, we searched for attractions nearby which we did not have confidence to visit. Similar restrictions would be enforced at these places as well. We had no other choice other than enjoy Bhairasagara Lake near Gudibande. Expansive lake filled with plenty of ruddy water which means it is raining sufficiently here. Looks like the break monsoon poured relatively high in numbers at this place. Hence the lake was brimming with fresh rainwater. Looks like this lake provides drinking water and farming needs to this town. We could see farm fields surrounding the lake boundary. Officially, this lake is not tourist spot and hence it was easy to explore without restrictions. Also be wary of lake landscape if you plan to play in water.

The Gowribidanur state highway that runs along the lake boundary provides mesmerising views of the lake ornate with distant mountains. If you plan to visit the Gudibande fort, do visit during mid-day so that once hike is complete, you can enjoy the glistening sunset from the state-highway with lake as foreground.

A short clip to end the post!
