Transit images from Charamadi Ghat

13 December 2020,

How blissful is this endearing rainforest. It has charm throughout the year. We had yet another travel to native ensuing yet another transit series from Charmadi Ghats. Our usual Shiradi Ghat has further deteriorated and not at all motorable for LMV. The heavy traffic along Shiradi Ghat is yet another disadvantage. Even though Charmadi Ghat has complex terrain and plethora of steep curves, is much better for LMVs due to absence of heavy trucks. The trucks find it impossible to negotiate the curves of Charmadi Ghat which makes car passage smoother.

Today as we reached Kottigehara, we were welcomed by newly paved roads. The Ghat road is getting a make over after the disastrous landslips and road cuts during monsoon 2020. The collapsed hillocks are being strengthened with concrete sidewalls. The roads are being relayed. You hear roaring construction equipment in wild :-). The sideways of road area unfortunately has high dip for now. If there is need to negotiate a vehicle beyond road surface, the bumper of cars may get scraped. Hopefully the authorities would rectify it once relaying is complete. The reflectors are installed on the sidewalls throughout the stretch to help vehicles travelling at night to identify the boundary. A slight mistake would plunge the vehicle to deep valley. Hopefully new road sustains monsoon fury which we can only hope for. Good news is that even Kottigehara-Mudigere road is also getting a fresh makeover. Probably it would be widened too!

The pictures from the Charmadi Ghat with zero clouds. The upper part of Ghat is completely grassland where plants can't survive since gusty winds blow throughout the year. As we climb down the hill, the dense jungle accentuates.

Monkeys are common in this stretch due to the enticing viewpoint. Many travellers stop here for a tiny photoshoot which draws huge crowd of monkeys hoping for snacks from visitors. Sometimes these guys snatch from people which prompts visitors to get down without eatables.

Hey buddy! Do you have something to eat for? I am damn hungry you know and its 12PM as well

We witnessed tiny traffic jam near Charmadi temple owing to the presence of road construction truck. The boulders of Ghats jut out from the hill making it difficult for massive trucks to negotiate. This shows how difficult is for a truck to manoeuvre in this tiny path. Historically, there were instances of traffic jam lasting for nearly 6hrs during midnight amidst the dense jungle and heavy monsoon rains.  Fortunately, the current jam cleared in 10 minutes. The road blocks have drastically reduced in Charmadi Ghat stretch post the ban on passage of trucks.
