Birding at Rachenahalli Lake - (04 December 2022)

04 December 2022

It has been months since we visited Rachenahalli Lake. Our weekend plans are primarily focused out of city to breathe fresh air and relax amidst the nature. This weekend was a slight deviation from short journeys and more into city life. The plan was to visit Rachenahalli lake to allow kids to enjoy in park. I carried my telephoto lens to see if any birding opportunity knocks.

Once kids concluded their park play, we walked towards the lake pier where this little egret was busy bobbing its head to catch evening snacks. I captured pictures of the bird

There was short fight with its peer which was shoed away from territory. I heard Little egrets do not entertain peers into their feeding territory. I could not manage that shot since my focus was at the flock of pelicans & cormorants basking on the tree top. Did not see any pelican enjoying the evening swim. A cormorant was busy fishing but disappeared soon.

Further stroll along promenade exposed this Rose-Ringed parakeet munching fruit from the nearby tree. This fruit is good for diabetics as per information from daily walker. Not sure though, we overheard their conversation. Amidst the fight between crows and kites for piece of meat, this vegan had peaceful snack with zero competitor

Intense brawl broke out between Black Kites, Crows and Mynahs. One of Black Kite and crow were fighting for short piece of meat. Crow defending its meat strongly though! The action could not be captured with details due to poor light

Meanwhile this black kite took short break before resuming the fight

The snappish Kites displaced the peacefully perched mynahs. Tumultuous Mynahs out of commotion were seen floundering all over the sky for a while!

Despite intolerable commotion, the grey-headed-swamphen and Black-headed-ibises were peacefully probing ground for dinner.

Meanwhile, the peaceful egrets (as their colour suggests) found a safe haven away from lake battlefield and seen perched in another territory. They seemed to be chilled looking at their feathers!

That's end of yet another birding post. The sight of bird loosen up the mind and prepares for Monday routine. Despite strolling on many occasions in both Amruthahalli and Rachenahalli lakes, I have been unable to capture cinerous-tit cleanly. When occasion did happen, I did not carry camera. Hope the lucky day to capture cinerous-tit is just around the corner.

  1. Very interesting sightings. I've never been to this lake. Yeah, cinerous tits are a bit difficult to capture.
