After eventful stay at native for 3 months, we are back to Bangalore. It was eventful since we visited many places and cleared backlog list. More importantly, I thoroughly enjoyed birding. When we reached Bangalore, the biggest menace was pigeons stinking the balcony. They converted the balcony to their habitat.
Unlike my village, I don't hear any birds here. The early morning echoes construction roars, vehicle honk, dusted environment and noisy crowd. I am hardly spotting any birds. Early morning, I hear sparrow, sunbird and tailor bird. Alternate days, we see Red-whiskered bulbul. How contrast it looks. The daily routine at village never starts with the song of Red-Whiskered-Bulbul. But here, its rare routine. At times, I heard ashy drongo, parakeets and greater coucal. Nearby, Amruthahalli lake hosts bit of aquatic birds like egrets, swamp hen and few ducks. I am yet to explore them thoroughly before I can list the birds. We also hear barbet call but quite infrequent. Apart from them, stage is predominantly belongs to black kites, myna and pigeons.
Jungle Myna is now Urban Myna :-D |
To ward off pigeons, we installed extra layer of nets which has narrowed focus from balcony. Hence shooting tiny birds is mirage. Let's see if we can find something around lake. At once, a house sparrow was perched on electric line but the pigeons chased them away. Tiny birds have tough time here.
The black kites squeal throughout the day in scavenging mode. These birds have become lazy in city. They are more of stealing mode than hunting. Probably the ease of food is something lures these bold creatures to city. This bird seemed to pick leftover food from trash. Looks like a cloth or food inside cloth or not sure :-)
Surprise visitor Greater Coucal couple of days ago!
Some lakes in Bangalore are flourishing with avian species. Hopefully I get a chance to visit and shoot some birds after the COVID mayhem downtrends.
