Bleak Monsoon

Nowadays monsoon follows induced pattern. It needs either low pressure system, cyclonic circulation or east-west shear to gain motivation. It nowhere follows natural pattern as earlier days because natural resources are also dying away

When sun enters star of Ardra or Punavarsu, we had relentless rains. Sun was just guest appearance. The skies were filled with thickest clouds. The pitter-patter of rain drops overpowered human speech. It was idyllic to have cup of evening coffee with goli-baje beholding the glory of monsoon rains. The canals turned murkier and were overflowing to fields. The concrete floors were turning to skating yard. The schools had unplanned holidays thrice a month.

In villages of coastal Karnataka, early morning be seated on wooden chair, glancing at news paper, sipping hot coffee, swaying between newspaper and beholding monsoon rains, watching the flooded paddy fields, roaring canals, is heavenly experience. The brimming wells are clear indication of vigorous monsoon spell. We used to sleep hearing to lullaby of pouring showers. But this year, the veranda is flooded with intense heat of "Greeshma rithu", the season of heat. When I was on the way to Bangalore, near Bantwal, even the chariot of VOLVO bus rolled down the sunscreen to prevent from striking sun. The distant roar of kapu beach is rarely heard. There is not even a single instance of rivers crossing danger mark.

Yes you see lot of greenery in picture. But these have become abode of mosquitoes. At this time of year, you cant even snap pictures due to torrential rains. The green vegetation on the ground should be have been deluged by flood waters.

We don't have such glories this year. We rarely see rains. Just burst of downpour lasting for few seconds. The rains just descend to make ground wet. The water in canal is stranded increasing chances of diseases. They don't have backing of torrential monsoon rain to usher them to sea with pride.

When satellite TV vanishes momentarily, it is guaranteed to rain for a while. But this time scene is different. The huge clouds obstruct satellite signals but without condensation. Not sure where does the moisture dissipate.

Meteorological experts say el-nino in indian ocean is diminishing which implies healthy monsoon pattern in future days. It may take many months to see tangible effect though.
