Shri Venkataramana Temple, Manjuguni, Sirsi Taluk, Uttara Kannada District

The visit to Majuguni temple was impromptu and surprisingly turned out to be the last place in our Uttara Kannada itinerary. This divine place was suggested by our uncle while we departed from Sonda Shri Vadiraja mutt. After exhilarating visit to Unchalli falls on concluding day of our stay at Uttara Kannada, we visited this temple which is 5kms interior to Sirsi-Kumta highway. Definitely, this place was worth the visit.

The temple was clean and well maintained. The architecture resembled that of Banavasi temple. The renovation work is fabulous without hindering the antiquity of the temple. The decorations inside the temple was eye-catching. The architecture is mesmerizing and preserved post renovation.

Known as Tirupati of Karnataka, the story of temple documents to 9th century AD, installed by devotee of Lord Vishnu, Shri tirumala yogi. The place also has mythological significance as well. The temple is located amidst the lush green rainforest of Western ghats which adds double delight to the divinity of location. The temple seems to be have inherited Kadamba architecture and has similarities with Banavasi temple. There is also references of multiple dynasties incrmentally developing the temple premises. Many of the developments were said to be conducted at the behest of Shri Vadiraja swamiji around 1600AD.

From external site:

The temple is located in belt of Western Ghats, also commonly known as Sahyadri hills. During winter, this place will be covered by thick fog and hence this place called by the name "Manjuguni". The temple of Lord Venkatramana is a huge complex built in Vijayanagara Style.

Free meals are served everyday during lunch hours for specific time interval. Don't forget to savour Boondi Laddu and Atirasa (A sweet made of rice flour and jaggery) which can be bought at nominal price.

Yet another attraction is huge tank which is located 500m from the temple. The huge tank is known by the name ChakraTeertha. A small Anjaneya gudi is located nearby the tank.

I do lament of not deeply enjoying the temple due to lack of time. The next visit for sure will not be fleeting one.

Food:

There are small snack outlets nearby. Temple also provides lunch provided you visit during lunch time. Sirsi is nearest town to depend for food.

When to visit:

I believe the temple could be visited throughout the year. The visit can be tough during heavy rains. At the same time, monsoon season would enable you to behold the beauty of temple as well as nature

Not many pictures from visit due to lack of time. Here is a short video of the outer area
