The temple is one of Holy Panchalingas connected to Ravana-Ganesha story. Out of 5, we had visited Murudeshwara & Gokarna. Dhareshwara is now fulfilled. Gunavanteshwara & Sajjeshwara are still waiting. One day, we plan to visit all 5 kshetras at once (known as Panchalinga darshana) and seek blessings of all Shivalingas. This is long pending dream too!
The temple area was deserted and priest was about to wind up morning activities. He saw us arriving and gracefully went back to sanctum to perform pooja of deity. Since afternoon Mahapooje had concluded, ringing bell was prohibited. We witnessed pooja in silence and prayed for betterment.
The temple architecture is quite old and non-renovated. It maintains ancient architecture still. The temple primary deity is Lord Dharanatha (Lord shiva) inside deep sanctum facing East. Lord Dharanatha flanked by Lord Ganesha and Lord Durga in left and right respectively. Outside garbhagruha (sanctum), a shrine of another form of shiva is located. The Nandi is installed at quite a distance here. Seems like one can see deity clearly from Nandi statue. Generally shivalingas can be seen at eye view of seated Nandi idol. Its focus is always on Lord Shiva.
A small pond or well like water body located outside garba gruha. The water is holy and nobody except the priest is allowed carry water from here. The water is source of Abhisheka to Lord Dharanatha.
The temple pushkarini is located at front of temple and welcomes the visitors.
Ancient scriptures and carvings on a stone plate is located outside temple. Perhaps the temple was built by king.
Took some pictures during circumambulation.
A healthy visit of 30 mins, concluded our spiritual journey. Old kannada inscriptions are located around temple which is believed to be from Kadamba dynasty.
The temple is easy to visit and located just beside the National highway. Here are temple timings.
Short Youtube shorts to reminisce the visit
