Unseasonal events - Unprecedented January rains

06 January 2021

The muggy weather has become unbearable. Today evening, I gazed at the sky to find the dark clouds due east providing hopes of considerable rains. The loud thunder and intense lightning increased our hope. Unfortunately, it did not rain as per expectation. The rains just sprayed over the region and the muggy weather was unabated. Some surrounding areas received massive rains measuring 60mm while our region hardly measured 1mm. What a contrast. Nature can be so much confusing & unpredictable. Surprisingly, it started raining from night 8PM and continued whole night. The monsoon vibe showed up during January. While down south, it rained tremendously in my native village with some places clocking 200mm+. Nobody would have predicted such volume of precipitation that too in January. The MET department had predicted rains over coastal Karnataka but not to this extent. Something to literally ponder upon on climate change may be. I am not an expert but such vagaries of weather would create suspicion on any common man :-). I don't have pictures from rains since it occurred at night. Just enjoy the evening dark cloud photos.

Here are short clips from short spell of drizzle spells from native village Padur and Hosaadu village respectively.
